JOB TITLE: Turning Operator
DEPARTMENT: Lathe
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Shop Supervisor - Turning
PURPOSE: To produce high quality parts efficiently, accurately and productively with minimal supervision.
Position Summary:
In this position, you will be responsible for manufacturing high quality components on CNC or manual machines. The operator is responsible for keeping the machinery running at peak performances while performing operations such as deburring, measuring or preparation for parts through current or subsequent operations.
Critical Functions:
To utilize CNC swiss type screw machines, CNC gang style lathes, and operate various machine shop equipment to produce precision machined parts. Proper use and setup of measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, comparators and optical CMM, including visual inspection of parts.) Use exceptional set-up skills on production equipment and make required machine adjustments such as off-sets, to maintain required manufacturing consistency per drawing and customer specification, and trouble shoot variations in processes. Meet and exceed targeted production goals and practice safe work habits, maintain clean working environment, perform routine preventative maintenance and other duties as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements:
Have a high school diploma (or equivalent), a good understanding of the decimal system, be alert and able to stay focused on current projects. Be responsible, accountable, eager, neat, respectful, reliable and pleasant. Have a mechanical ability, quality mentality, and a willingness to learn and change with a positive attitude. Be capable of lifting 70 pounds( periodically), have good close-up vision and good dexterity and able to communicate accurately and concisely.
Bonus skills:
Previous use with hand held measuring instruments.
Previously worked in a machine shop or production environment.
Trade school background.`
Previous CNC operation with understanding of tool offsets and operation.
